It could also mean the difference between you staying motivated and quitting on your dreams as a writer. Which is why you should practice habits that will help you develop as a writer and keep you on the track to being a great writer. Here are some habits that can help you stay motivated as a writer.

  • Work out

Writing usually entails you to use your brain power more than anything else but this does not mean that you ignore other facets of who you are. You should also try to embrace your more physical side and work out more often. This change not only benefits you physically but can also help you as a writer. This is because exercise helps you to unwind and it also helps raise serotonin levels in your body. Jogging is a great form of exercise because not only does it help you to shed the pounds it is can be used to help calm your mind before you write.

  • Have a special place to work

You should make sure that you have a good place to write. Remember that writing a book takes a lot of time and you will be surprised at how much work it entails. This means that you will be sitting in front of your laptop for hours and writing page after page in the same place. And although you do have a passion for writing, it can get old very fast. Which is why you should have a special place to work in. It could be practically anything. From your kid’s treehouse or your study. It must be comfortable and well lit so that you do not get uncomfortable and have proper light during the writing process. It must also be conducive to writing, which means that you should have peace and quiet while you are in your workplace.

  • Get up early in the morning

It does not matter whether you want to write in the morning or at night. It is always a good idea to get up early in the morning. This is because the earlier you get up the more work you will get done. It will also allow you to get a good head start on the day.

  • Have a fixed schedule

Having a fixed schedule is a must when it comes to writing. This is because writing, as enriching as it is it can also be quite difficult. And it takes a great deal of discipline to keep doing it every day. This is why you need to have a regimented approach to it. If you want to schedule your writing sessions, it should be at a time you are most comfortable with. Do you prefer writing in the early morning before work or late at night? It does not really matter what time it is, just as long as you can sustain it.

  • Meditate

Meditation is considerably one of the best ways to clear your mind of troubles. The practice of meditation was first used by Buddhist monks. They used meditation to clear themselves of worldly desires. It helped them to focus their thoughts and reach a center of calm. As a writer meditation can help you in many ways. It can help you to reduce stress levels and improves your ability to concentrate on your work. And seeing as stress is one of the reasons why some authors lose their motivation to write, meditation is an extremely useful habit to have as a writer.

  • Listen to classical music

It is a proven fact that classical music helps brain development. The effects of music are fundamental in life and people who regularly listen to it always seem to excel in their chosen fields. Some of the greatest minds in history from artist to musicians.  Albert Einstein himself listened to classical music. Thus it is a good idea to listen to classical music while writing. It is advisable that you listen to Classical greats like Beethoven, Bach and Mozart.
